Studio Artists
Stuart Keeler
Canadian, Stuart Keeler is a sculptor, curator, and writer whose work explores the territory between the public realm and the role of the artist in the built environment. His frequent work in other media, including installation, sound, drawing, and performance often explore multiple histories, private functions, and public mythologies, and questions the human landscape. From the outskirts of Toronto to urban Chicago and the periphery of Paris, Keeler explores the evolving role of how art and the public can be united in subversive ways. Recently he has completed a series of works that challenge and offer multiple concepts of sustainability, “green,” and the power of information systems presented within social art contexts.
Keeler investigates presented environments influenced by the languages of design, architecture, and the exposure of apparent social systems and curatorial structures. These works are about a continuing dialogue between the artist and an established blend of the observational and intuitive. The end result is always open.
