Dayna Thacker

http://www.daynathacker.com

Dayna Thacker works in collage, assemblage and installation. She uses found materials to investigate the systems that people create for themselves in order to make sense of the world and their place in it, such as philosophy, religion, science, geometry, poetry, mythology, etc. Her recent Ego as Architecture series was inspired by the ancient form of Buddhist mandalas, which use simplified floor plans as metaphors for the structure of the human soul. Though she has moved many times and travels as often as possible, Thacker considers herself to be from the South. She spent much of her youth in Tennessee, and received a BFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She moved to Atlanta in 2006. Recently she received an award from the Forward Arts Foundation, and her work will be featured in an upcoming Southern issue of New American Paintings.
